Today's Webtip: Television
Some of you might not realize this, but there was a time when television was considered one of the great evils. It was going to ruin the worlds youth, contribute to illiteracy, and leave us a mass of babbling idiots, completely incapable of free thought and tied to the great glass teat.
Sound familiar?
That hatred inspired some pretty amazing art, fun poetry, and one or two fairly decent books. But, like home taping, society has moved on, and now we can blame the internet and social networking for the stupidification of the worlds youth.
One brilliant example of TV art is a poem by Todd Alcott. Television is told from the perspective of your television, and it's a fairly entertaining little rant. Beth Fulton took that poem and put it to video (see what she did there?). The results are even more entertaining. For an added kick, change the word Television to Twitter, Myspace or Facebook and the poem becomes a prescient summary of some peoples hate for the social net.
