Today's Webtip: Knowledge Navigator
Apple fans and haters alike are probably all aware that today is the day that...
something will happen.
Most people are ready to bet that a tablet type device will be announced this evening. The fanbois are convinced it will be the next great thing, and the haters are convinced it will be just another overpriced and overhyped excuse to rid idiots of their money.
As a matter of fact, some people are in such a tizzy that I am almost tempted to pull a Dworak at troll for hits. Almost. I'm probably much too lazy to be a proper troll.
Instead I'm going to point you toward some ancient documents pointing to apples long standing fascination with tablet style computing. The 1983 slate from Frog Design will be pretty well known to anyone over 40 who is a fanboi, as will the Knowledge Navigator video.
While the Frog Design was just a hardware mockup, the Knowledge Navigator videos were more about presenting the idea of software agents. Software agents were quite the buzz once upon a time, but the reality ended up being quite a bit different than the bowtie wearing avatar featured in the video. Still, it's pretty amazing to see just how close they managed to come to the current state of things.
Except for the bowtie.
And here is a little something for those of you who think the iWhatever is going to be too little for too much, too late. It's a real steal for $49 plus shiping.
