Today's Webtip: Square America

one person's journey from collector to curator.

One of the nifty things about the web is that it means we can all take part in documenting the human experience.

It was only a few years ago that the past was mostly locked up in boxes and dusty rooms, or stored away in albums most people would only see when the wrong relatives cam round.

Now we can collect it, share it, document it, misinterpret it, fail to learn from it and revel in it at the same time. Each and every one of us. Theoretically.

unknown

One person who has turned a collection into an exhibition is behind Square America. It's not just another photoblog, and it goes well beyond the usual "look at how funny they all were back then" post em if you got em sites. It's a hobbyists attempt at putting things in order. Trying to make some kind of sense of the things they are compelled to collect.

Each photo is dated (roughly) tagged and might eventually find itself in a curated slide-show based on some interesting theme.

Square America is completely lacking in snark or bad jokes, but it is chock-full of information waiting to be digested. It's absolutely lovely.
