Have you ever thought it would be really cool to push, pull or otherwise physically manipulate objects on a computer by actually pushing, pulling or otherwise physically manipulating an input device?
The technology that would allow that to happen is called haptic technology, and for years it was primarily the realm of science fiction and big budget research. Times have changed though, and haptics have come to the desktop and the hobbyist.

unknown
One man who has been doing quite a bit to make haptics accessible is Kyle Machulis alias qDot. His company, Polynomial Labs has been working on all sorts of interesting projects. An exercise bike control and 3D viewing setup for Second Life, a WiiMote based yoyo tracking system and lots of other fun things. Like Teledildonics.
Kyle has a second site just for the projects based on his hobby of breaking sex-toys. Slashdong. If you feel uncomfortable viewing pictures of sex-toys in various states of deconstruction, you may want to avoid it. If that type of thing doesn't bother you, then you might find it an entertaining read about all sorts of things you probably didn't know existed.
Right now Kyle is an Artist in Residence for Monochrom. Tonight they will be combining forces in Raum D in the MuseumsQuartier to present the most recent Arse Elektronika anthology Do Androids Sleep With Electric Sheep and Kyle will be giving a talk entitled: "What is the sex of the future, and why aren't we having it yet?".
I missed this years Arse, but gave a talk at the first one and just sort of hung out at the second and I had quite a fun time. That's the reason I'm going to actually crawl out of my hidey-hole and saunter on down to Raum D tonight. Mr. Machulis should be worth the trip.
