Idealists are a dime a dozen on the web. It's one of the things that makes it such a fun place.

Idealists who drop their day job to use this big toy as a tool to improve humanity on the other hand, are incredibly rare.

Salman Khan has done just that. In September of this year he quit his job to dedicate his time to teaching anyone with web access absolutely anything.

Right now his site has focused on mathematics, economics, chemistry and biology. Not surprising from someone with degrees in mathematics, computer science, electrical engineering and business. Mr. Khan would like to take it further though, and according to his FAQ, he hopes to eventually have lessons up about any subject imaginable.

I have to admit, I'm a little amazed that it took one guy in his home to finally do the kind of thing every single countries Department (or Ministry) of Education across the planet should have been developing. Well, I'm amazed one guy actually did it. Not that the others haven't.
