It's a way to learn how to speed read. Or it's a tool to make the most of the speed you already have.

The worst thing about school has been the realisation that I don't have near enough time to actually read all of the things I want to read. My list of books just keeps getting longer, and each new book just adds ten to my list.

Since I haven't managed to actually squeeze more time into the day, I obviously need to squeeze more words into my head. So running across a free web-tool to improve the speed of my reading is just too darn cool.

Spreeder is supposed to be a free tool to teach you speed reading. The idea is that by gradually increasing the rate of text playback, you can increase your reading speed and rate of comprehension. Fans of racing games should be more than familiar with this. Rather than jumping in the lambo on the hardest track, you work your way up from the Peugot 206.

I don't know if I can take my reading speeds up towards my NFS scores, but just feeding texts into it at my highest comfortable playback means that I can actually get through the text faster than if I had been reading it on a full page.

It turns out that keeping your eyes focused on one point and taking in one word at a time is a pretty significant speed increase as is.
