Today's Webtip: Lunar Boom
And you can watch.
The kiddies at NASA have decided to share the fun today as their LCROSS lunar probe hurls a bit of debris the size of an SUV at the Moons surface. For Science!
They are hoping that there might be frozen water in a crater on the souther pole and plan to find out by analyzing the plume formed when the hunk of metal hits the surface. Armchair astronuats across the planet can get in on the fun by tuning into NASA's live feed which they will be opening at 12:30 this afternoon. The impact itself is scheduled for 13:30.
So grab some popcorn and a comfy chair and watch the moon go boom!
The SLOOH space camera will also be hosting two streams, one from New Hampshire and one from Arizona. They have a cool clock on their page counting down the time until impact.
