Well the easiest way, if you have a few hours to spare, would be to kick back and watch an ancient documentary on the Man.

Mahatma- Life of Ghandi 1869-1948 is 5 hours and 10 minutes long and should be able to give you a bit more interesting perspective on his life than the Wikipedia article on him can.
Of course, today just also happens to be the International Day of World Peace (which I'm sure is just a coincidence) so you could go take part in some non-violent demonstrations if you feel the need to be a bit more proactive in your celebrations.
friedensnews.at has some info on the worldwide march for peace and the special event that will taking place on the Stefanplatz later on this evening. Now, if you want to fit both items into your schedule, you will probably need to get cracking.
That documentary is a looooooong one.
