Cultural mash-ups, political slip-ups, and other things that make me go hmmm.

My Reality

"User-generated content". It’s a fashionable media phrase and Reality Check likes to use it. Share your perspectives and stories on a new show dedicated to you: My Reality.

Reality leaves a lot to the imagination. (John Lennon)

For me, one of the coolest things about working at FM4, in particular on our midday news magazine Reality Check, is meeting the movers and shakers of our time. I’ve met scientists, philosophers, soldiers, human rights activists, artists, technicians, athletes, analysts, religious leaders, political leaders, coal miners, one astronaut, doctors, victims, perpetrators, farmers, fellow journalists, and a lady who was 109 years old.

The stories and perspectives these people told me were fascinating but, I have to say, no stories are as good as the ones that come from the people within the FM4 community. I’ve met the most innovative, forward-thinking, creative, and accomplished young people as a direct result of my work at FM4 and so, I think it’s high time for the FM4 community to share their stories with each other.

Every Saturday, Reality Check focuses on one particular subject for a one-hour special. As of Sept. 19th, one Saturday per month will be reserved for your stories - "My Reality" debuts with the perspectives of a young Austrian man doing his (Austrian) Zivildienst in Tel Aviv, Israel.

This is how we’ll do it

You send us audio/video depicting whatever it is you want to share. We’ll take over your material and produce up to 18 minutes of radio broadcast material which we will then cut into four features. If you haven’t got a sound recorder or a video camera and you want to share your story, don’t worry, we will figure out a way to make it happen! You don’t have to be in an extraordinary situation to be featured on "My Reality". All you need is a good story to tell or a compelling perspective to relay. Whether you’re sailing around the world, dancing for a living, involved in refugee placement programs, completing an internship in Shanghai, or taking over the family farm, Reality Check will provide a forum for your stories to be told. In English or in German, whatever rocks your boat.
