Today's webtip: The King is dead
I have to admit, I'm no great fan of Michael Jackson's music. It just wasn't my thing.
That's not to say I can't appreciate some other aspects of his fame though.
As a wannabe dancer, and long time fan of the classic hollywood dance films, his videos were always a joy to watch. The man managed to bring back massive dance performances that were easily equal to Fred Astaire at his best. I'm fairly certain we have him to thank for Madonna's dance extravaganza, which of course left us with Christina and Britney.
We won't blame him for their music though.
And then there was the eccentric. To be honest, that's probably my most favorite side of Mr. Jackson. No one has managed to play the larger than life millionaire eccentric better than him. He even managed to make Howard Hughes look a bit amateurish in his endeavors, something the rest of us could only ever dream of. Yes when the going gets weird the weird become wildly successful pop stars with their own fun park and personal zoo.
If it weren't for that baby dangling thing...
Anyway, I'm not here to praise Jackson, I'm here to point out some of the interesting things you can find online.
BoingBoing is topping my list of personal favorites, with a lovely collection of questionable links including a fabulous mashup of Fred Astaire dancing to Smooth Criminal:

Monochrom provides us with a quirky illustration and link for Jackson's anti gravity illusion patent (as seen in his performance for Smooth Criminal)

And then we have MetaFilter, which manages to throw together a whole mess of tasty treats while giving us a quick rundown of the life and labors of Michael Jackson.

Now, after going through all of those bits and pieces of the mans career, I have to admit, there might indeed be a little fan in me...
One last thing. Anyone looking to find some alternative ways of sharing their grief (or excuses to do some public dancing) should probably go check out the mass moonwalk at Karlsplatz this evening. 19:00.
Having already aggravated my broken toe by pulling a bad jackson move in the studio this morning, I will have to refrain from active participation.
