Today's webtip: Local Motors
As we watch the Automotive giants flailing about looking for a clue, it is sort of refreshing to run across a new Car Maker willing to take a series of Very Big Risks.
Local Motors is a daring attempt at taking things like open source, crowd sourcing and social networking and applying them to business structures and automotive designs. Yes, you could help design an open source car.
Or, to be more specific, a few people already have. The design has pretty much been finished, prototyping is underway and they are gearing up to get their first micro factory up and running.
If you have spent any time thinking about things like alternative business structures, the death of the middleman, distributed production or the solution to the problem of a niche economy, then you really need to take a look at what these people are doing.
