Today's webtip: see history unfold

as Wolfram|Alpha launches. I certainly hope his search engine works better than his video crew.

Wolfram|Alpha was opened to the public yesterday. The event was streamed live on Justin.TV. Which is a sort of interesting thing to do I guess. They are doing some major testing right now, and Monday is set to be the official start.

Right now you can watch Mr. Wolfram talk about what's going on, listen to the video techs talk about what they are going to do while Mr. Wolfram is talking about what's going on and see lots of big screens with graphs and stuff.

I have to admit I am a bit of a skeptic about the whole thing. Or, to be more precise, I am getting annoyed by the way all the reporters are talking about the google killer. Right now it seems to be a pretty nifty calculator and a nearly functioning almanac.

Whatever it might be, it's a brilliant bit of self promotion on the part of Mr. Wolfram. Now, excuse me while I go ask it some stupid questions.
