New York City has a problem. Illegal billboards. Apparently, a company has decided that the relatively minor fines it faces for putting up unlicensed billboards were so much less than the costs of actually acquiring legal advertising space that it would have been bad business not to break the law.

A group of artists, graphic designers and people with glue decided to do something about it. Since enough of our lives are being flogged off to advertisers, they whitewashed the illegal bulletin boards, and put up some art instead. One local business man who had had enough of the less tha legal ad business even helped.
