Today's webtip: Copyfight 2
some of you might have heard of the 3 strikes rule. The general idea being that anyone who was accused to using their internet access for copyright infringement 3 times could be taken off the net. It's been the focus of some hot debates in France and across europe when Pres. Sarkozy came out as a strong supporter of it.
For fans of things like law and order and human rights, the idea of being able to be punished for accusations is sort of scary. And it's one of the reasons that people other than pirates have been a bit upset at the idea of the three strikes rule. It's also the reason an ammendment was made that would guarantee that if 3 strike rules were implemented, a judicial review of the accusations would be required. An ammendment that was struck out and is once again up for discussion.
Today.
One group has gone so far as to put together a webpage to fill people in on the issue. They are not only concerned about the three strikes rule, but about the future of free and equal access to internet in general.
Unfortunately, the site has been slashdotted, so there isn't much to see there for now. You can however get a bit more informed by going here, www.laquadrature.net
