Today's webtip: Free Music

because getting your video blocked sucks.

So you have probably heard about all of the problems various people have been having because they used bits and clips of music in their videos. Now as much as I support the artist and copyright holder in exploiting the last possible cent out of their (or their employees) creations, I also want to see as many people making stuff as possible. And as someone who came out of a music scene that didn't see music as a way to become a millionaire (or even a hundredaire), it's nice to see such a massive collection of creations for creations sake.

So the next time you and your friends decide to go out and make a nifty little video, why don't you check out the Free Music Archive? It's put together by some Non Commercial Radio stations (yes, they still exist!) and, although it's open to everyone, the collections are actually curated, which means this isn't some kind of upload free-for-all.

I've been pretty amazed by the quality of the tracks I have come across so far. The first 5 songs I checked out on the punk pages managed to not piss me off, which is more than I can say about most of the commercial (punk? yeah, commercial punk. sad aint it?) offerings I have had to listen to lately. So go dig around and see what you can find, and rest assured that you can use it for your podcasts, movies, youtube clips or whadeva.
