Today's webtip: koms.ru

an Ideologically Distinctive Animation System

Some of you might remember the birth of Flash. When I was doing multimedia development in '96 and '97, I was using Flash to create the animations, and Macromedia Director to pull everything together. It was also a lot of fun in combination with After Effects.

In other words, it was a fun little tool that worked well with other software to do some great things which you could then share on the web.

It didn't become a complete development tool until some time later.

Apparently, there are still people out there who actually use Flash to make animations. Just animations. No interactive add banners, or annoying e-cards that scream at you the moment they are activated, no flash encased homepages that kill your back-button.

Just pictures that move.

Still from Flash Animation by Kol Belov.

One group that is getting back to the roots is koms.ru . They have put together a collection of Russian and Eastern European works that are wildly intense and non-commercial. The site also highlights works from other coutries, they have a blog (in Russian) and all sorts of other things most modern day websites tend to have.
