Today's webtip: More Moore please

Alan Moore talks about anything other than the soon to be released Watchmen movie.

It's a well known fact that Alan Moore and Hollywood don't mix. Hollywood likes Moore, but Mr. Moore is somewhat less than fond of Hollywood.

The trouble is that Mr. Moore writes some really great comics. Comics that some people think would make fabulous films. Of course, it's easier to think about making a fabulous film than it is to actually make one.

A lesson some people in Hollywood still haven't learned.

Thanks to the way our copyright system works, The Artist rarely actually owns the work that they do, which means that the real owner (of the copyright, not the talent) can do what they want with it. Which is why we have movies of Moore works like "V for Vendetta" and "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

And now, "Watchmen".

Set to be released on the 6th of March in Austria and directed by Zack Snyder this is yet another film Mr. Moore will not be watching. As a matter of fact, in an Interview with Wired, he pretty much avoids talking about it at all. He does, however, talk about a lot of other interesting things, and the interview is a lovely little starting point for hours of on and off-line research.

Which is why I think you might like it.
