Today's webtip: Tools of the Trade
Once upon a time, getting work done on the road meant a bag full of gear and a pain in the neck. Which was a pretty big improvement over being chained to a desk.
Now, thank to netbooks, umpc's, and smartphones, the pain in the neck has pretty much been eliminated, and for some jobs, a pocket full of gear will suffice.
I have been watching the development of mobile apps for at least 10 years now, and it has been sort of fun to watch the the focus of the apps shift as the user base expands. The PIM (personal information manager) and CRM focus of the early days eventually expanded to include remote acces and development tools for code types, and now apps are coming out for the creative crew.
The writers and bloggers have now been joined by photographers and designers, and tools for reference and planning have been showing up as well as some interesting additions for content creation.

Windows mobile has had some excellent painting apps for a while now, if you can find them, and it looks like the iPhone is going to have a pretty nice offering as well.
Two seperate blog posts offer a quick rundown of apps for the mobile creative type. Some of them might actually be useful...
