Today's webtip: M-Media
Sometimes I really feel like a foreigner. It's not just about being homesick, it's about being completely out of place. Something that can be hard to notice because on the surface everything seems so similar.

M-Media
The last week has been a pretty heavy foreign moment. It's had me thinking about things like xenophobia, and racism, and what it means to be an Immigrant.
Because that's what I am.
Expat might sound nice and romantic, but it completely fails to deal with the true nature of my life here. It's also something we don't usually discuss here.
But the case of Mike B. has had these things burning in my head. Because this isn't just about black or white, African or American, it's about respect too. And it's about whole boatloads of disrespect.
One of the forms of disrespect that has bothered me was the dearth of migrant voices in the media here, and one of the organisations dedicated to doing something about it is M-Media. An organisation I came across thanks to online solidarity sites for Mike B.
M-Media views itself as a bridge between Migrant media and communities and the mainstream Austrian media. I think they are doing some important work, and I can only hope they have as much success as possible with it.
It is very much worth checking out.
