The Shareware Music Machine

hitsquad.com
Normally I wouldn't pay any attention to any group of musicians who let the word "Hitsquad" get too close to them. When used in connection with music it tends to summon up images of fat suits from Florida, and I still haven't fully recovered from that last round of Florida finesse to make it to the mainstream.
So it was a bit of a surprise when I realized that the site I had been mining for some really nifty bits of software for data-based music composition was a part of the Hitsquad Musician Network. I was already knee deep in freeware ad had pretty much hit the point of no return.
They have an absolutely massive collection of links and info on software that might be useful in the creation of music. You can find most of the usual commercial and semi-commercial sound software you might already know, but if you are willing to dig and want to work with free (as in beer) tools, you can find some pretty incredible stuff.
They actually have all of the free software roped off into it's own section, which you can then further breakdown based on your operating system and the task at hand.
