My social media feeds have been full with reports and photos from the east coast of the U.S. It seems like loads of people are willing to risk life and limb in an attempt to score some heavy likes. Even the mainstream media isngetting into the game, sending apparently underappreciated reporter into the dark and stormy night to report live from the middle of the gail.

As is so often the case with online photos, some are frightening, some are spectacular, and some are fake.

The Atlantic has decided to do something about it. Taking a cue (and a name) from the ever useful snopes.com, InstaSnopes is doing some old fashioned fact checking to sort the real from the fake.
