Today's Webtip: Marathon!
Anyone looking to revel in a little FPS nostalgia could use Bungies 20th anniversary as a reason to still the urge. The mighty Mac developers who eventually went on to big things by leaving us in the lurch after their megahit Halo hit it big have been around for quite some time now, and one of the ways they celebrated was with a release of Marathon for the iPad.
Well, they didn't actually do it, but thanks to their decision to open source the project code, one very dedicated hobby developer took Aleph One and put it on his iThing.
Not an easy thing to do considering the fact that it was designed at a time when computers were the size of golf carts, and real men networked with tennis shoes and floppy disks. Well, it wasn't that bad, but you know what I mean.

Bungie
Marathon was the premier FPS for the mac, and the version game in the genre to bring network playing to the unwashed masses. It was one of the main reasons a lot of design agencies across the planet had some seriously sleep deprived employees in 1994.
And it's still pretty fun. Bungie did a good job of telling an interesting tale through the medium of computer games, and I like to think of the Marathon series as a very interactive Science Fiction story.
You can get Marathon on iTunes (yes, it's free!)
For those of you who don't have a compatible iDevice but still want to know what the hubbub is about might want to check out Aleph One. It's supposed to work across multiple platforms, and is a cheap way to waste some time.
So anyone wanna do an Android port?
