There was a time, once long long ago, when Americans didn't talk about sex, stars and starlets wore undergarments, and a homemade sex tape didn't guarantee an interview on the red carpet.

Times certainly have changed.
One thing that remains the same though, is my complete and utter confusion when it comes to the popular U.S. metaphor for sexual practices. The Base System.
You have probably heard it used in movies, if not in real life. In a coy attempt at describing the previous nights "conquest" a report will be made as to which Base was reached. Base as in Baseball. As in three strikes and you're out, a homerun gets a point, and 4 balls will walk you.
As a teen I was pretty clear on the basics. First base was a kiss. Anything beyond that was pretty murky.
And complicated. Luckily for us the good folks of xkcd have been kind enough to illuminate the obfuscation. Now I know just where sharing root lies in the greater scheme of things...
