Album der Woche: "Keep it simple" - Der New Yorker Formation The Drums ist die Gitarre kaum ein Riff wert. Dick aufgetragen wird höchstens über den Anspruch, die gesamte Musikwelt zu erobern. Immerhin haben die Vier aus Brooklyn mit ihrem aufreizenden Saccharin-Pop zwischen 80er Jahre-Seitenscheitel und Beach Boys-Welle in diesem Jahr schon zwei Mal das Cover des New Musical Express gestürmt. Das selbstbetitelte Debüt will man auch als Kampfansage an die experimentelle Popszene Brooklyns verstanden wissen, frei nach dem Motto: "verkrampft ruhig weitherin Eure Finger am Griffbrett, wir gehen jetzt surfen". Diese Ansage hat kurz vor dem Sommer eigentlich immer schon gut funktioniert. Tut es auch bei The Drums vorzüglich.

Homebase Spezial: Südafrika
Ab Freitag werden die Augen der Welt für zumindest einen Monat auf Südafrika gerichtet sein. Die FM4 Homebase blickt schon vorab Richtung Süden und hört in die Klänge von Capetown, Johannesburg und Durban rein. Neue elektronische Musik von z.B. DJ Mujava wird dabei ebenso zu hören sein, wie die vielfältigen lokalen Ausprägungen von Hip Hop oder noch unter dem Apartheid-Regime entstandene Funk- und Soul-Aufnahmen aus Soweto. Im Gespräch beschreiben die Musikerinnen und Musiker ihre Szenen und Alltage. (Von und mit Natalie Brunner, Florian Obkircher, Alex Hertel und Stefan Trischler)
