Today's Webtip: Shuffler

mixin up the music web for your reading and listening pleasure.

The state of online music? It depends on where you live I guess. When it comes to the big name buzz sites, we just live in the wrong country.

I don't think we will ever get access to pandora.com, and spotify.com has had me on it's waiting list for ages now. If I thought I would ever see a pension, I would probably plan on seeing that before seeing a join now page on one of those sites.

Fortunately for us, for now, being ignored by major rights holders, or being held hostage by regional distributors doesn't have to mean an end to discovering music on the web. A few music blogs survived the great music purge of 2010, and now there is a really easy way to surf them.

shuffler.fm is a wonderful mix of webradio, and stumbleupon.com. They surf the music blogs, scraping away at the info you need to classify the postings, and then package it all up in neat little categories based on last.fm tags. Pick your genre and let the music play.

The player remains at the top of your window, while the blog post featuring the song you are hearing is displayed below. Shuffler offers the usual social networking buttons to share your discoveries, and most of the blogs have them too.

It's a great way to discover new music and new music blogs, and if they would team up with the blip.fm crew, they could have a serious bundle of fun on their hands.

And if there are any talented designers with some spare time, please consider donating a few logo suggestions. They could sort of use it...
